greek | turkish | german

January 23- 25, 9 am.

January 25, 7 pm - public trilingual final reading

Goethe-Institut Zypern Leoforos Markou Drakou 21, 1102 Nicosia, Cyprus

As a result of the conversation between the Goethe-Institut Cyprus and the Moving Poets, who are active as art organisations in Berlin and Charlotte / USA, a trilingual poetry translation workshop with a final public reading in Nicosia was agreed as the first joint event in July 2018.

Five poets each from Cyprus (Cypriot-Greek), northern Cyprus (Cypriot-Turkish) and Berlin (German) will take part in the translation workshop, which will take place from January 23 to 25, 2019 in the rooms of the Goethe-Institut in Nicosia, Cyprus.

With: Gerd Adloff | Nafia Akdeniz | Zeki Ali | Melitis Apostolides | Max Czollek | Senem Gökel | Kerstin Hensel | Emel Kaya | Tabea Xenia Magyar | Lily Michaelides | Tamer Öncül | Kostas Patinios | Maria Siakalli | Achim Wagner | Marilena Zackheos

The aim of the workshop is to enable the participants to get to know each other better and to inspire each other interculturally. The possibility of direct active communication should help to solve linguistic misunderstandings and problems that arise during translation. The resulting cultural exchange will contribute to better mutual understanding and, in the special case of Cyprus, will also bring about "getting to know one's neighbour".

The poems in three languages are based on English translations. The participants will submit three poems in their mother tongue and three in English.

In the interest of intensive work, the workshop is reserved for the participating poets.

The public trilingual final reading will also take place on January 25, 2019 from 7 pm in the rooms of the Goethe-Institut Cyprus, to which we cordially invite all interested people.

On the part of the Moving Poets, Hasan Cötok and Lutz Längert prepared the workshop with the active participation of participating Cypriot poets.
We thank Mrs. Karin Varga and the Goethe-Institut Cyprus for their great support.
