Moving Poets is an international community of artists and creative professionals of different disciplines, cultures and age groups. We were founded in Charlotte in 1996 as a professional, non-profit arts organization. Today we are based in in Berlin, Germany (Moving Poets Berlin) and in Charlotte, USA (Moving Poets Charlotte).
We strive to convey content and stories that are meaningful to both the artists and the audience, support the presentation and creation of high quality contemporary art and serve as an arts incubator to collectively create new works.
Bringing together local, national and international artists as well as creative professionals of different disciplines and cultures, we open possibilities to be inspired, to try unfamiliar paths and to create and present new works together and individually in a relatively relaxed setting.
Moving Poets works with established and with young and emerging artists and creative professionals, especially from the visual arts, music, dance, theatre, photography, film and multi-media. We regard authenticity, quality, respect and curiosity for others and other views as significant, including the willingness to engage in constructive discourse and a welcoming attitude towards the audience.
We create outreach and educational programs that promote integration, accomplishment and self esteem by engaging the participants in hands on, collaborative processes of creating and presenting work on various levels.
